Men's Basketball adds Baker to 2026-27 recruiting class

CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy Men's Basketball program is excited to announce the addition of Anthony Baker to its 2026 recruiting class, the second under Head Coach Cedric Gillette.

Baker, a 6'3" wing from Hyattsville, Maryland, joins the Mariners after spending the past season at Baltimore City Community College. A versatile player known for his energy and defensive impact, Baker averaged 5.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game while consistently making winning plays on both ends of the floor.

Prior to Baltimore City Community College, Baker attended Cesar Chavez Public Charter School, where he developed a reputation as one of the toughest and most selfless players in the area. Throughout his career, he led his team in both rebounds and blocked shots while also leading the region in charges taken, showcasing the toughness, effort, and defensive mentality that define his game.

Away from the court, Baker enjoys gaming, trying new restaurants and foods, swimming, reading, and journaling. He chose Maine Maritime Academy because he was looking for a close-knit community where he felt genuinely believed in as both a student and an athlete. Baker plans to major in International Business & Logistics at Maine Maritime Academy.

He's an elite defender with great instincts and the ability to jump passing lanes, create chaos with his deflections, and completely disrupt opposing offenses. What I really appreciate about Anthony is that he embraces all of the little things that help teams win.
