GORHAM, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the United States Coast Guard Academy on Saturday at Hannaford Field.
The Mariners got off to a strong start, taking a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. Senior
James Baur put a shot on goal that was saved before senior
Dillon Wilkinson found the back of the net just eight seconds later at 9:17.
Maine Maritime continued to generate opportunities during the opening half, with Wilkinson recording another shot and senior
Hunter Crea adding two attempts. The Mariners also earned a corner kick late in the first half.
Coast Guard answered with three goals during the opening 45 minutes, taking a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Maine Maritime continued to compete defensively throughout the second half, holding Coast Guard scoreless over the final 45 minutes. Senior
Reagan Moynihan made another save in the second half and finished the match with two saves.
The Mariners also continued to look for opportunities offensively. Senior
Aiden Burr recorded a shot in the 67th minute, while Maine Maritime worked to create chances throughout the second half.
Wilkinson led the Mariners with two shots and one goal, while Baur and Crea each recorded two shots. Burr added one shot as Maine Maritime finished with six shots, including two on goal, and one corner kick.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday when it battles Central Maine Community College on the road in an exhibition.
