GORHAM, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the University of Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
The Mariners finished with nine shots, including seven on goal, while earning four corner kicks. Junior
Hadley Stoddard led Maine Maritime with five shots, three of which were on target.

Isa Thesing turned in a strong performance despite the loss, making 11 saves over 90 minutes. Thesing recorded eight saves in the opening half before adding three more stops in the second half.
Southern Maine opened the scoring in the ninth minute, but the Mariners continued to create opportunities. Stoddard recorded Maine Maritime's first shot on goal in the ninth minute, which was saved by the Southern Maine goalkeeper.
Junior
Charlotte Manes added a shot on goal in the 14th minute before senior
Abby Wong followed with another shot on target less than a minute later. The Mariners also earned three corner kicks during the opening 27 minutes.
Maine Maritime continued to pressure the Southern Maine defense after halftime. Stoddard had two shots saved early in the second half, while junior
Isabella Da Silva put a shot on goal in the 66th minute.
The Mariners continued to generate chances late in the match, with Stoddard adding shots in the 77th and 79th minutes. Senior
Sophia Hernandez closed out Maine Maritime's offensive attack with a shot on goal in the 90th minute that was saved.
Southern Maine added its second goal in the 49th minute, and Maine Maritime's defense and Thesing kept the hosts off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.
Maine Maritime finished with seven shots on goal, led by Stoddard's three. Wong, Da Silva, Manes and Hernandez each recorded one shot on target.
The Mariners return to action Monday with a road exhibition against Central Maine Community College beginning at 1 p.m.
