2020 Staff Spotlight

Dan McKenna returns to the Maine Maritime coaching staff for his second season as an Assistant Coach, working with the outside linebackers.

McKenna joined the Mariners in 2019, after spending two seasons at Methodist University as the Special Teams Coordinator/Specialists Coach and Director of Football Operations.

Prior to his time at Methodist he spent four years coaching at his alma mater, Anna Maria College. Under McKenna's guidanced Anna Maria's placekicker/punter Francis Cole was named to the Division III All-American second team as a punter in 2016. Cole was also named to the Worcester Area All-Star Team and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North All-Star first team as well as the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) First Team.

Cole finished the season second in the nation for his punting in Division III football. Also in the 2016 season, kick and punt return specialist Joe D'Onofrio ranked fifth in the nation as a kick returner, notching 36 kickoff returns for 846 yards and 25 punt returns for 120 yards. D'Onofrio was also named to the Worcester Colleges All-Star second team as well as being recognized by the ECFC in the 2015 season as a return specialist.

In the 2015 season, punter Stefano Marziale led the ECFC with a 37.1 yard net average, punting 59 times for a league-best 2,118 yards. Marziale made the All-Conference Second Team in the 2015 season & received first team All-Conference punting honors in 2014, all under McKenna's coaching.

Prior to coaching, McKenna played for Anna Maria and was honored with the creation of "The Dan McKenna Coaches Award" after his senior season. This award is given out annually to a football player who excels on and off the field.

McKenna is a Worcester, Massachusetts native, graduating from Anna Maria in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
