Husson
beats UMF in afternoon match
Castine,
Maine - The Lady Mariner Volleyball team hosted two conference
match-ups Saturday at Margaret Smith Gymnasium. In the first match,
MMA faced the UMaine Farmington Beavers and won 3-0. In the second
match of the day, the Husson University Eagles swept the Beavers
3-0.
In
match one, the Lady Mariners beat UMaine Farmington by the score of
3-0 (25-10, 25-18, and 25-16). Sophomore Chelsea Ward
(Homer, AK) dominated the match leading MMA with 13 kills on only
21 attempts to go along with 10 digs and 4 block assists. Senior
captain Amy Young (Cumberland, ME) and sophomore hitter Kayley
Rodriguez (Quincy, IL) each collected 8 kills. Heather Moore
(Macedon, NY) played well collecting 7 kills and adding 5 service
aces. Freshman setter Jennifer Dixon
(Woodstock, MD) was outstanding again collecting 32 assists while
sophomore libero Lauren Sakahara
(Bellevue, WA) added 10 digs.
Emily
Beebe (South Paris, ME) led the Beavers with 7 kills and 4 digs
while sophomore Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) added 6 kills and
9 digs. Katie Allen (Bucksport, ME) led UMF with 9 assists while
Whitney Walls (Bar Harbor, ME) added 7 helpers in the loss. Jenna
Rowan (Kittery, ME) and Caitlin Flaherty (Plymouth, MA) each led
the Beavers with 10 digs.
The
win improved MMA's record to 17-2 on the year and 6-0 in NAC play
while the Beavers drop to 8-8 on the season and 4-2 in NAC
play.
In
the second match of the day, the Eagles of Husson University
defeated the Beavers from UMaine Farmington by the score of 3-0
(29-27, 25-12, 25-8). Hannah Olstad (Farmington, NH) led Husson
with 10 kills on 21 attempts while Kaitlyn McKay (Lincoln, RI)
added 6 kills of her own. Marion Kish (Wallingford, CT) led the
Eagles with 20 assists and 7 service aces while McKay pitched in
with 12 digs.
Shannon
Mitchell led UMF with 5 kills and 6 digs. Jenna Rowan collected 10
digs and 3 aces while Katie Allen led the team with 8 assists. The
loss drops the Beavers to 8-9 on the year and 4-3 in conference
play while Husson improves to 10-12 overall and 5-1 in the NAC.
