Castine, Maine -- Attacker Ben Landry (Lewiston, ME)
collected a career high nine goals and two assists on the afternoon
as the Eagles from Husson University defeated the Maine Maritime
Academy Mariners 13-7 in a North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse
game played Tuesday afternoon at Ritchie Field.
Husson (3-4 overall) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first
quarter behind four Landry goals over the span of seven minutes.
The Mariners (0-3) got their offensive attack in gear in the second
quarter scoring four of the next five goals to close the gap to
5-4. Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, CT) had two goals in that time
frame followed by a Wade Mondoux (No. Berwick, ME) and Dennis St.
Pierre (So. Berwick, ME) tally. Husson quickly responded to
though, scoring the last two goals of the half, when Landry scored
his 5th and 6th goals of the day
giving the Eagles the 7-4 halftime lead.
Anthony Diaz (Brunswick, ME) pushed the lead to 8-4 just 17
seconds into the third quarter off of a pass from Landry. MMA's Todd Murphy
(Middlesex, VT) pulled the Mariners to within three with a goal at
the 9:40 mark of the third but it was all Husson after that scoring
the next three goals putting the game away. Landry scored his
7th and 8th goals sandwiched around
a Mitch Heaps (York, PA) tally giving the visitors the 11-5
advantage.
Both teams scored two more times in the last eight minutes despite
MMA taking a 20-8 shot advantage in the fourth stanza.
Landry finished the day with 11 points while Alex Ryan
(Northfield, NH) tallied four points on four assists. Anthony Diaz
and Nick Brown (Sabattus, ME) each had two points on the day. John
Hopper (Wakefield, RI) got the win for Husson making five saves in
26 minutes. Alex Behzad (Stamford, CT) played well making eight
saves in 34 minutes for the visitors.

(Holliston, MA) each had three points while Wade Mondoux scored

while making three saves.
The Mariners will be back in action on Saturday when they host the
Beavers from UMaine Farmington.
