Poultney, VT – One day removed from their first conference
victory of the season, the Green Mountain College men's lacrosse
team ran into a buzz-saw Maine Maritime Academy squad, falling 18-1
in North Atlantic Conference action Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles fall to 1-7 (1-5, NAC) while the Mariners run their
record to 6-4 (6-2, NAC).
MMA opened their account three minutes into the first quarter when
Christopher Keiley (Holliston, MA) notched the first of his
game-high five goals. The Mariners rattled off six more goals over
the ensuing eight minutes, claiming a 7-0 advantage heading into
the second quarter.
The visitors charged out of the gates in the second fifteen
minutes, tallying 10 goals on 17 shots while limiting the Eagles to
just four total shots in the quarter.
GMC finally found the back of the net in the 3rd quarter through
Max Talsky (Hanover, NH) who turned in a spectacular individual
effort to notch the only goal on the afternoon for the home
side.
The Mariners added one more goal in the 4th quarter, running the
final score to 18-1.
MMA outshot GMC 53-10 and claimed 16-of-22 face-offs on the
afternoon.
Keith Drinkwine (Delmar, NY) made 9 saves in the losing effort
while Kevin
Boucher (Gorham, ME) and Erik Milles (Bangor,
ME) splitting time between the pipes for MMA, combining for four
saves.
Wade Mondoux (North Berwick, ME) added four goals and went
10-for-13 in the faceoff circle for the visitors while Tom Houle (Manchester,
NH) had an outstanding afternoon, notching three goals and four
helpers.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they head to cross-town
rivals Castleton State for a 7:00 pm NAC matchup with the
Spartans.
