MMA Overwhelms Beavers 22-1

DiSalvo collects 11 points in the win

Castine, Maine -- Attacker Andrew DiSalvo collected six goals and five assists on the afternoon as the Mariners from Maine Maritime Academy defeated the Beavers from UMaine Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse game played Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.

MMA (1-3 overall, 1-1 NAC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 30 seconds into the match on an unassisted goal by Todd Murphy (Middlesex, VT). The Mariners were held scoreless for the next seven minutes until they erupted for four goals in 37 seconds to take a commanding 5-0 lead. DiSalvo had two goals in that span while Dennis St. Pierre (So. Berwick, ME) and Richard McKee (Plymouth, MA) each added a goal. The Mariners scored two more in the first quarter on goals by Wade Mondoux (No. Berwick, ME) and another by McKee to give themselves a 7-0 cushion. 

MMA added six second quarter goals to go up by the score of 13-0 at halftime. DiSalvo and Mondoux scored twice in the quarter while Nick Lund (Alfred, ME) and Tom Houle (Manchester, NH) each added a tally of their own.

The Mariners kept the pressure on scoring five more time in the third before the Beavers got on the board. Mondoux (4 goals) and DiSalvo went back to back to open the quarter before Ryan Williams (Cumberland, ME) and Chris Keiley (Holliston, MA) scored just nine seconds apart. Tom Houle (2 goals and 2 assists) scored his second of the day at the 5:48 mark to give MMA the 18-0 lead before the Beaver's Drew McLaren (Harrison, ME) scored their lone goal of the day with 1:27 left in the third quarter.

MMA made it 19-1 at the beginning of the fourth on a tally by Ryan Geist (Trappe, MD) and then Ryan Gannon (Concord, NH) scored his first of the year to make it 20-1. The Mariners ended the game on goals by DiSalvo and St. Pierre.

UMaine Farmington (1-1 overall, 0-1 NAC) was led by McLaren's lone goal while Daniel Horne (Bay Shore, NY) and Matthew Nutter (Swampscott, MA) led the Beavers with five ground balls each. Nutter took the loss in goal for UMF giving up all 22 goals. Despite the loss, Nutter collected 26 saves while facing 75 MMA shots.

Andrew DiSalvo led MMA with 11 points and collected 13 ground balls while Chris Keiley collected five points including four assists. Mondoux and Houle each had four points in the victory while Nick Lund had three points on the day. Kevin Boucher (Gorham, ME) made two saves on 10 shots and picked up his first collegiate win, improving to 1-3 on the season.
