Box Score POULTNEY, Vt. – Benjamin Russell (Farmington, Maine) tallied the game winner as Maine Maritime Academy defeated Green Mountain 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday.
Russell netted his third goal of the season, converting on a deep throw-in while surrounded by defenders. His first half marker held up as the game-winner. It was Russell's second game-winning goal this season. The Mariners (7-3-1, 4-2 NAC) took the lead into the half and extended it on the other side of the break.
Abdullah Alkhayyat (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) was able to thread an open field pass between two Eagles (1-9-1, 1-5 NAC) defenders, allowing Gabriel Warren (Edgecomb, Maine) to race in and squeak a shot past the outstretched arms of Kishbaugh.
The Eagles generated several quality scoring chances late in the game, buy they were unable to convert. Kishbaugh tallied two saves in defeat. Maine Maritime Academy recorded its seventh shutout of the season without a save on the sheet.
The Eagles host Husson University on Sunday for a NAC match. The Mariners will travel to Castleton State on Sunday.
