Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Nate Tipton (West Chester, Pa.) scored a pair of goals on assists by Benjamin Russell (Farmington, Maine) to lead Maine Maritime Academy to a 2-0 victory over Johnson State in North Atlantic Confernce (NAC) soccer on Sunday afternoon.
Tipton netted his fourth of the season at the 28:08 mark, redirecting a hard carom off of Russell's initial blast. Tipton sent the ball to the lower left corner for the 10th game-winner of his career. It was 50 minutes later when Russell played a ball to Tipton streaking down the right flank for the insurance marker.
The goal snapped a two-game slide for the Mariners' (5-3-1, 2-2 NAC) moved MMA back to .500 in the NAC at 2-2. The loss was the Badgers (4-6-1, 1-3 NAC) second in as many games on the weekend.
William Trace Lacour (Charlottesville, Va.) recorded his fifth shutout of the season, needing ot make only one save. His counterpart, Ryan Belen (Northvale, N,J.) came up with five stops in the contest.
MMA outshot their guests 17-9 and took seven corners to the Badgers four.
Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday against Colby-Sawyer in NAC play. Johnson State will face Lyndon State, also in league play.
