FARMINGTON, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy marched past the University of Maine at Farmington 16-1 in North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action today at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (4-6, 2-5) and Mariners (6-4, 5-2) await the NAC postseason seedings. The NAC Quarterfinals are scheduled to be held a week from today.
Christopher Keiley (Holliston, Mass.) scored six goals and assisted on another to lead Maine Maritime, while Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) pitched in with two goals and three assists and Brian Corain (Berwick, Maine) added two goals and an assist. Tom Houle (Manchester, N.H.), Alex Grant (Stratham, N.H.), Wade Mondoux (North Berwick, Maine) and Toddy Murphy (Middlesex, Vt.) each had a goal and an assist in the win.
Rylan Cates (Camden, Maine) scored the lone goal for UMF, while Mike Foley (Byfield, Mass.) led all players with 10 ground balls.
Erik Milles (Bangor, Maine) made 12 saves for the Mariners.
Jason Smith (Portland, Maine) shined defensively for MMA with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Ben Altmaier (Farmington, Maine) recorded 11 saves for the Beavers, who were outshot 45-24 in the match.
The Beavers stood up to the Mariners for the first eight minutes of the game with Mondoux scoring off a DiSalvo feed with 6:37 and Grant netting an unassisted marker with 6:17 remaining to take a 2-0 lead after one quarter.
Maine Maritime appeared to be taking a 5-0 lead into intermission, but the Mariners scored three times over the final 18 seconds of the half to bolster their command to 8-0.
Cates stopped the shutout with 5:49 left in the game, but by then Maine Maritime was well on its way to the 16-1 victory.
