Prowse Powers Bucs Victory

Box Score

PORTLAND, Maine –Drew Prowse (Wakefield, Mass.) factored in on half of his team's goals in leading Massachusetts Maritime to a 14-7 win over Maine Maritime at Portland's Fitzpatrick Stadium Sunday afternoon. The freshman attack scored five goals, assisted on two more, and gathered five ground balls on the afternoon. The victory put the Buccaneers on the plus side of .500 at 4-3, while Maine Maritime fell to 0-5.

Prowse scored all of his goals in the second half and factored on five-straight in the third quarter to snuff out Maine Maritime's first comeback bid. After consecutive goals from Tom Houle (Manchester, N.H.) and Andrew Disalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) the Mariners were trailing 7-4. Prowse answered with a perfect feed from behind the net out to a streaking Adam Palilonis (Highstown, N.J.), who cashed in for the second time in the game. Palilonis also recorded three assists on the day. The two reversed roles on the next possession, setting up a fast-break quick stick on a failed Mariners' clear.

The Buccaneers then used three passes in transition to give Prowse in easy look, which was followed by the frosh scooping the ground ball on the ensuing faceoff and then placing a shot inside the far post. He scored with his team serving a three-minute penalty for an illegal crosse at the start of the final quarter to cap his run.

While Prowse did the bulk of the Buccaneers damage, Dan Langley (Abington, Mass.) sparked the victory scoring his only two goals of the game in Mass. Maritime's opening 3-0 salvo. His pair served as bookends for the first of Dylan Freudenberg's (Islip, N.Y.) two. Freudenberg's goal was assisted by Prowse.

The Mariners tried to rally again late in the fourth quarter. Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) collected a loose ball in the midfield and threw an alley-oop to Ryan Williams (Cumberland, Maine) to start a three-goal run. DiSalvo factored in on the next two assisting Brian Corain (Berwick, Maine) before closing out the game's scoring with an unassisted marker. DiSalvo finshed with two goals and two assists, moving him to 189 points (97g, 92a) in his career.

Six different Mariners accounted for Maine Maritime's scoring, including a pair of freshman. Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) answered Mass Maritime's opening run with a run and blast down the right side of the box. Corain fed Portland native Bronson Guimond for his first collegiate goal.

Mass. Martitime keeper Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) stopped 18 shots for the win. The Mariners' Gavin Cote (Arundel, Maine) denied the Bucs 10 times, including five in a stretch in the third quarter when Maine Maritime closed the gap to three.

Maine Maritime returns to action next Saturday when the Mariners face Thomas in North Atlantic Conference play. Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State on Wednesday evening.
