Mariners Sail Past Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine – Alex Hermes (Fallsington, Pa.) scored four goals to lead Maine Maritime to a 15-5 win over Maine-Farmington in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) lacrosse Wednesday afternoon. The Mariners head into the NAC Tournament on a winning note, closing the regular season with a regular season record of 5-8, 5-3. The Beavers' loss closes Farmington's season at 2-10 (1-7 NAC).

Hermes scored two goals in both the first an third quarter, and set the tone for the day with a goal 65 seconds into regulation. Hermes won 10 faceoffs and gathered 11 ground balls in the victory as well.

Farmington answered Hermes on an extra man goal, but Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) punched in the first of his three on the day to reclaim the lead for good. Betti also tacked on an assist in the win.

Andrew DiSalvo (Glastonbury, Conn.) tallied a hat trick and three assists to take sole possession of the top spot on the career-points leaderboard at Maine Maritime. He entered the day with 215 points, tied with Christopher Keiley.

Brian Corain (Berwick, Maine) scored twice and added an assist, while Tom Houle (Manchester, N.H.) and Cameron Wyman (Limerick, Maine) each scored and assisted a goal.

Hermes' second goal, coming with 34 ticks left in the first quarter, made it a 5-1 game after 15 minutes. Farmington's Matt Roy responded with his first of two goals on the afternoon, cashing in on an extra-man opportunity early in the second. Corain answered for MMA 47seconds later, sparking a 10-0 Maine Maritime run.

Roy had two goals and an assist on the day for Farmington. His helper came on Brandon Melville's extra-man goal in the first quarter. Melville finished with two goals and an assist as well.

The Mariners kept play tilted towards the Beavers cage for the duration, firing 55 shots to Farmington's 19. Maine Maritime won 18 of the game's 23 faceoffs and scooped 20 more ground balls than their hosts.

Maine Maritime will learn their NAC playoff fate early Thursday when the conference tournament seeds are officially released.
