Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. –Maine Maritime Academy scored three first half goals en route to a 4-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Johnson State on Sunday. The win lifts the Mariners to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the NAC, while the loss drops the Badgers to 1-11, 0-4 NAC.
Bryan Soucy (Windham, Maine) put the Mariners on the board in the ninth minute after a pretty exchange from Benjamin Russell (Farmington, Maine) to Nicholas George (Bangor, Maine), who dropped a pass back to Soucy. Soucy drilled it past a diving Sam Martin to give the Mariners the early jump.
Less than three minutes later the Mariners took advantage of an errant pass by a Johnson defender. George collected the ball in the middle of the field, then beat Martin for the relatively easy second goal of the game.
Christopher Gilman (Old Town, Maine), and Kyle Haslam (Lamoine, Maine) tacked on the rest of the Mariners offense.
William Trace Lacour (Charlottesville, Va.) needed a single save to earn the win for MMA. Jesse Perkins (Bangor, Maine) relieved him, also making one save. Their counterpart, Martin made six stops for Johnson.
The Mariners will step out of conference to play the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, October 3 at 5:00 pm.
