Chargers Deal Mariners First NAC Loss

Box Score

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Men's soccer fell to NAC foe Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-0.

The Mariners found themselves down early when the Chargers found the back of the net in the 10th minute. Denali Sexton picked up his fourth goal of the season, when he rebounded his own shot and beat Mariner keeper, Marshall Spear (Rockport, Maine).

Maine Maritime heavily pressured the Colby-Sawyer net, recording seven shots in the first half alone, but the Chargers struck again late in the first half. Rick Prindville headed in a corner kick from Alex Ortega to expand the Charger lead to 2-0.

Sexton scored again in the 61st minute, and added an assist on an Ortega goal to give Colby-Sawyer a 4-0 lead, and the victory.

Spear finished with three saves for the Mariners, while Colby-Sawyer goalie Nick Austin had five saves to earn his seventh shutout of the season.

Senior Gabriel Warren (Edgecomb, Maine) led the Mariners with two shots on goal.

The Mariners, who are now 7-5-1 overall and 4-1-1 in North Atlantic Conference play, will return to action next Saturday, October 18th when they travel to Thomas College for another NAC contest.
