Pair of Late Game Goals Lift Mariners Past UMF

Box Score

CASTINE, Maine – Two late game goals lifted the Mariners past Maine Farmington on Tuesday night, extending Maine Maritime's win streak to five games.

The Mariners started the scoring when Gabriel Warren (Edgecomb, Maine) grabbed his fourth goal of the season, on an assist from reigning NAC Player of the Week Jonathan Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) to put Maine Maritime up 1-0.

Warren struck again twenty minutes later in the 32nd minute, when he picked up an unassisted score, increasing the Mariner lead to 2-0.

The Beavers got on the board with a little less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half when Jordan Luks grabbed his third goal of the year, beating Mariner keeper Marshall Spear (Rockport, Maine).

Only a few minutes later in the 39th minute, Farmington's Uriah Forest-Bulley picked up the equalizer, and his first goal of the season to make it 2-2 heading into halftime.

After nearly 45 minutes of scoreless play the Mariners finally scored on a throw in opportunity, when Tom Samson (Waterville, Maine) sunk a rebound off a defender into the back of the net to give the Mariners the go-ahead goal.

With 1:55 remaining in the game Reeks grabbed his 10th goal of the season, on a nicely played passed and using a spin move to shake the Beaver defender, giving the Mariners the 4-2 lead.

The Beavers were not about to down without a fight, on a direct kick opportunity in the final minute Beaver keeper Matt Wilson found the head of Luks, who then directed the ball past Spear, to slice the lead within one.

The Mariners were able to hold on for the victory and improve to 7-4-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the NAC.

Spear recorded one save in the win, while Wilson picked up five stops in the loss.

Maine Maritime will continue NAC play when they travel to Colby-Sawyer this Saturday.
