Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Men's soccer battled to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon with New England College to open up North Atlantic Conference play.
Maine Maritime Academy was led by goalkeeper Marshall Spear (Rockport, Maine) who made 14 saves, Pilgrims goalie Tenzin Khenrab stopped five shots in the draw.
Spear was tested by the Pilgrims with 16 minutes remaining in the first half, when Sebastian Anderson shot and Michael Skarbelis rebounded the attempt, but the Mariner defenders were there to close the door on the opportunity.
The Mariners answered with their own scoring opportunity with nine minutes remaining in the first half, when Gabriel Warren (Edgecomb, Maine) shot a ball just wide, hitting the outside of the net.
Coming off his five-goal performance this week against UMPI Jonathan Reeks (Bedford, N.H) saw a scoring opportunity but was challenged quickly by Khenrab who eliminated the angle. The Mariners and Pilgrims each shot the ball five times in the second half, but were unable to beat the keepers, sending the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, the Pilgrims (2-4-1; 0-0-1) pressured the Mariners and Spear with three shot attempts, but Maine Maritime stood strong sending it into a second overtime.
With seven minutes remaining in the second overtime Warren had another chance for the Mariners when he crossed a ball in front of the Pilgrim net, but that chance was blocked by a defender.
The Mariners are now 4-3-1 overall and 0-0-1 in NAC play, and will host Bates College this Tuesday night at 7:00 PM in a non-conference duel.
