Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime shutout NESCAC opponent Bates College 2-0, on Tuesday night at Ritchie Field. The win marks the Mariners first defeat of the Bobcats in the series.
Maine Maritime jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the after three-straight corner kicks from Gabriel Warren (Edgecomb, Maine). Warren's third corner finally found the head of Kyle Haslam (Lamoine, Maine) who knocked the ball in past Bobcat keeper Sam Polito.
The Mariners struck again when reigning NAC and ECAC Player of the Week Jonathan Reeks (Bedford, N.H) settled a ball played up by Christopher Gilman (Old Town, Maine) and beat his defender, finding the bottom right of the net.
The second half proved to be a physical battle between the two teams, but the Mariners hung out to their 2-0 lead and clinched the victory over Bates (0-6-1).
Reigning ECAC and NAC Rookie of the Week Marshall Spear (Rockport, Maine) grabbed his fourth shutout of the season, stopping all 11 shots he faced. Polito finished the game with three saves.
Maine Maritime (3-4-1) will return to action this Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Vermont to face Johnson State on Saturday and Lyndon State on Sunday in two NAC matchups.
