Mariners Drop Non-Conference Contest with Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime fell to non-conference opponent Colby College on Wednesday night, 3-0.

The Mariners fall to 0-9-1 all-time against the NESCAC school.

The two teams hung scoreless for the first 39 minutes of competition, the Mariners Kyle Haslam recorded the first shot of the game, but the attempt was blocked. 


Colby struck late into the first half when Charlie Dupee connected with Keith Chernin for the score in the 40th minute. Nearing the end of the first half, the Mariners had three corner kick opportunities but could not get past Mule keeper Cody Funkhouse. 

The Mules extended their lead to 2-0 in the 72nd minute of the game with Dupee, again recording the assist, connected with Chandler Smith.

In the 85th minute Colby added to their lead with Chernin grabbing his second goal of the day.

Funkhouse stopped all two shots he faced earning the victory for the Mules. Mariners keeper Marshall Spear stopped five shots on net, in the loss.

The Mariners fall to 0-2 on the season, and will travel to Bangor Friday and Saturday to play in the Husson University Eagles Challenge Cup. Maine Maritime will face Gordon College on Friday night and the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon.
