Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's soccer defeated Johnson State 11-0 on Sunday afternoon, in North Atlantic Conference play at Ritchie Field.
Bryan Soucy (Windham, Maine) opened up the scoring for the Mariners in the 4th minute, and then dished out an assist to Kyle Haslam (Lamoine, Maine) in the 13th minute to put the Mariners up 2-0.
Jonathan Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) set Haslam up in the 22nd minute to make it 3-0. Matt Leblanc (Dayton, Maine) headed in a corner kick from Soucy in the 33rd minute to extend the Mariner lead to 4-0. Tom Samson's (Waterville, Maine) shot rebounded off the hands of Badger keeper Sean Springer, and Jack Weeks (Ellsworth, Maine) chipped the ball in the net to make it 5-0, heading into the half.
In the second half, Christopher Gilman (Old Town, Maine) and Alex Blackwell (Rockport, Maine) each added a pair of goals, and Samson scored a goal to lead the Mariners to an 11-0 win.
Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) grabbed the win in net for the Mariners, stopping all two shots he faced, while Sean Springer stopped 11 shots in net for the Badgers.
The 11-goal perfomance, ranks second all-time in most goals scored in a game in program history. The last time the Mariners scored 11 goals during a game, was on October 26, 1995 against the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.
Maine Maritime improves to 3-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NAC, and returns to action on Tuesday night when they travel to take on Bates College in non-conference action.
