Box Score LEWISTON, Maine – A late-game goal lifted Bates College over Maine Maritime Academy 1-0, on Tuesday night in non-conference play at Garcelon Field.
The Mariners and Bobcats battled back-and-forth until Drew Munoz broke the scoreless match with his first collegiate goal in the 77th minute. Sophomore forward Nate Merchant earned the assist, his second of the season, carrying the ball toward the right goal-line before threading a cross through the penalty area, which found its way to Munoz on the left corner of the box.
Bates (6-2-1) held a 23-6 edge in shots, while the Mariners took three corner kicks to the Bobcat's two.
Maine Maritime goalkeeper Marshall Spear (Rockport, Maine) had nine saves in back of a stout defense that kept the Mariners in the game, while Sam Polito earned the shutout win in net for Bates.
Maine Maritime (3-7-1) will resume North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, October 10th when they host Husson University at 3:30 p.m. on Ritchie Field.
