Box Score NASHUA, N.H. -- Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to Rivier University on Saturday afternoon, 14-5.
The Raiders (1-0) went an impressive 5-for-8 on man up opportunities to defeat the Mariners (0-1), in the season opener for both teams.
Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) scored a pair of goals to lead the Mariners on offense, while Dean Samuelson (Ellsworth, Maine), A.J. Larrabee (Farmington, Maine), and Peter Moore (Scarborough, Maine) added the other scores. Defensively, Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine) and Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.) led the Mariners with three caused turnovers each. Guimond, Larrabee, and James Wilgus (Phippsburg, Maine) each scooped up six ground balls. Wilgus recorded 11 saves in net.
Kyle Graham led the way for the Raiders, scoring five goals and picking up three assists. Cody Lynch chipped in with three goals, while Kevin Dembkoski and Tyler Tambouris added a pair of goals each. Defensively, Dembkoski and Josh Martin led the Raiders with three caused turnovers apiece, while Lynch scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls. Clark Plummer recorded 12 saves in goal for Rivier.
Maine Maritime Academy is tentatively set to return to action tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. against the University of Southern Maine at Memorial Field in Portland, Maine, following a thorough assessment of the field conditions.
