THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to Massachusetts Maritime 16-8, in day two of the Second Annual Maritime Cup. The Buccaneers took the Admiral's Cup for the third-straight year over the Mariners. 

The Buccaneers took a 6-2 lead into the halftime, led by two goals from Conor Greaney. Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) led Maine Maritime with two first half goals.

In the second half, Massachusetts Maritime outscored the Mariners 10-6 to claim the 16-8 non-conference victory.

Betti and Dean Samuelson (Ellsworth, Maine) led the Mariners offensively with three goals apiece. Betti added an assist, while also scooping up five ground balls. Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine) and Peter Moore (Scarborough, Maine) recorded the other goals for the Mariners. Jack Tragert (Naples, Maine) went 19 for 25 on the faceoff, while scooping up a game-high 11 ground balls and A.J. Larrabee (Farmington, Maine) scooped up seven ground balls.  

James Wilgus (Phippsburg, Maine) picked up 21 saves in net for the Mariners while James Klose recorded 10 saves in 58 minutes in goal.

Keaghan Bartley and Dylan Freudenberg also recorded hat tricks in the game, leading the Buccaneers. Freudenberg added 10 ground balls, and Alec Plotnikiewicz added a game-high five caused turnovers. 

The Mariners fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Buccaneers improve to 3-0. Maine Maritime returns to action on March 21 when they open up North Atlantic Conference play against Lyndon State at home.
