Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse cruised to a 24-0 victory over Lyndon State College in North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.
In the first shutout since March 31, 2012 against Thomas College (17-0), the Mariners were led by six goals from both Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) and Peter Moore (Scarborough, Maine). Betti added three assists, six ground balls and a caused turnover, while Moore added a pair of assists, six ground balls and a caused turnover.
Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded three goals, while Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine), Dean Samuelson (Ellsworth, Maine), and Kyle Thomas (Yarmouth, Maine) each added a pair of goals. Mike Fuller (Portland, Maine) added a goal and a season-high, five assists.
Ian Larcom (Middletown, R.I. ) led the Mariners with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers, while reigning NAC Defensive Player of the Week, James Wilgus (Phippsburg, Maine) and Jacob Rondeau (Richmond, R.I.) combined for the shutout in net for the Mariners with five saves.
Jack Tragert (Naples, Maine) went an impressive 17 for 19 on the faceoff, while Grant went 3 for 3 and Elliot Roberts (Jamestown, R.I.) went 2 for 3.
The Mariners went 4 for 5 on man-up opportunities, 16 of 17 on clear attempts, and scooped up 68 ground balls.
Justin Mosher and Shane Morin led the Hornets with five ground balls apiece, while Jeff Russell and Ian Pelkey caused two turnovers each. Morin was strong in net for Lyndon, recording 19 saves in the loss.
The Mariners improve to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the NAC, while the Hornets fall to 0-1. Maine Maritime will return to action on Wednesday when they host NAC rival Thomas College at 7:00 p.m.
