Mariners Cruise Past Beavers

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse cruised to 21-1 victory over Maine-Farmington on Tuesday night in North Atlantic Conference action at Ritchie Field.

Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) opened up the scoring for the Mariners, but the Beavers responded less than a minute later when Casey Wrigley snuck a shot past Maine Maritime keeper James Wilgus (Phippsburg, Maine). The Mariners answered back with 12-unanswered goals to take a commanding 13-1 lead into the intermission.

Betti and Peter Moore (Scarborough, Maine) led the Mariner attack in the first half, securing hat tricks in the first 30 minutes. 

In the second half the Mariners added eight more to take the 21-1 victory. 

Betti finished with a team-leading five goals and two assists, while Moore ended with four goals and six assists. Mike Fuller recorded a hat trick while dishing out three helpers, Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine) and Dean Samuelson (Ellsworth, Maine) added a pair of goals, while JT DiGuglielmo (Milton, Del.), Alex Grant-Roy (Biddeford, Maine), Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.), Kyle Thomas (Yarmouth, Maine), and A.J. Larrabee (Farmington, Maine) added the other scores for the Mariners.

Defensively, Sam Bessey (Brunswick, Maine) and Alec Grant (Hollis, N.H.) chipped in with three caused turnovers, and Jack Tragert (Naples, Maine) scooped up a game-high eight ground balls going 11-of-16 on the face-off.

Wilgus and Jacob Rondeau (Richmond, R.I.) combined for four saves in net, while Joseph Maldonado stopped nine shots in net.

Zack Rowland led the Beavers with five ground balls and an assist, and Josh Smith recorded a team-high three caused turnovers.

Maine Maritime improves to 6-6 overall and 6-1 in the NAC, while the Beavers fall to 0-12 on the season and 0-6 in the conference.

The Mariners will travel to New England College for their final regular season game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
