Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse cruised to a 15-4 NAC Quarterfinal victory over Green Mountain on Saturday afternoon, at Ritchie Field.
Dean Samuelson (Ellsworth, Maine) led the Mariners with four goals, three assists and five ground balls. Peter Moore (Scarborough, Maine) added four goals and a ground ball, while Bronson Guimond (Portland, Maine) added a goal and a pair of helpers, and Nicholas Betti (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) chipped in with a pair of goals.
Jack Tragert (Naples, Maine) contributed a goal and an assist and Mike Fuller (Portland, Maine) and Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.) added the other goals for the Mariners. James Wilgus (Phippsburg, Maine) and Jacob Rondeau (Richmond, R.I.) split time in net for the Mariners, combining for 10 saves.
Tragert scooped up a team-leading nine ground balls, breaking the all-time record for most ground balls in a career (259), and Betti's two goals put him at 200 career points. Betti now ranks first all-time in goals (161), shots (549), shots on goals (300), man-up goals (25), games played (58) and games started (53).
Dominic Wright and Richard Aberle Jr. led the way for the Eagles with two goals, while Nick Parsons dished out three assists. Nate Laymon scooped up seven ground balls, and Carl Dietheim scooped up seven ground balls, while stopping five shots in net.
The Mariners (7-7) will travel to New England College for a NAC Quarterfinal game on Tuesday at 4:00 pm. The Eagles conclude their season with a 3-9 overall record.
