Box Score BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell 19-3 to SUNY Maritime on Saturday afternoon in day two of the Third Annual Maritime Classic, hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Nick Pellegrino scored five goals in the first quarter to send the Privateers into the second quarter with a 7-0 lead. SUNY Maritime added six more goals in the second to take a 13-0 lead into halftime.
Brendan Broderick (Massena, N.Y.) put the Mariners on the board to open up the third quarter on an assist from Jacob Rondeau (Richmond, R.I.) but the Privateers scored three-straight to build a 16-1 lead and never looked back.
Alex Grant-Roy (Biddeford, Maine) added two goals to lead the Mariners, while Rondeau ended the afternoon with a pair of helpers. Michael Dedian (Scarborough, Maine) led the Mariners with six ground balls, Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.) caused a team-high two turnovers, and Cody Schell (Pasadena, Md.) recorded 12 saves in net for Maine Maritime Academy.
Pellegrino led the Privateers with five goals and four assists and Ian Danahy added three goals and three helpers. Matt Hayes led the Privateers with 11 ground balls, going 13-of-20 from the faceoff, and Jonathan Strezenec tallied a team-high two caused turnovers. Chris Stickney, Julius Diaz and Kevin Izzo recorded two goals each and Brendan McNally earned the win in net stopping all two shots he faced.
Maine Maritime Academy falls to 0-2 on the season, and will play Massachusetts Maritime tomorrow at 11:00 am. The Privateers (3-1), who defeated Massachusetts Maritime on Friday evening, claimed the Maritime Cup for the second-straight season.
