Men's Lacrosse Falls to Mass. Maritime in Admiral's Cup

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse fell to Massachusetts Maritime 16-6, on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Maritime Classic and the Admiral's Cup matchup.

The Buccaneers jumped on the board with two goals at 8:55 and 7:02 before the Mariners answered on a goal from Tim Grant (East Northport, N.Y.) at 6:42 to cut the deficit to 2-1. Massachusetts Maritime added two more goals in the first quarter to carry a 4-1 lead into the second.

The second quarter mirrored the first, with the Buccaneers scoring two goals, and the Mariners responding on a score from Brendan Broderick (Massena, N.Y.) at 9:17. Massachusetts Maritime added two more to take a 8-2 lead at the half.

Massachusetts Maritime held the Mariners to just two goals in both the third and the fourth quarters, while building a 16-6 lead en route to the Admiral's Cup victory.

Broderick led the Mariners with his first career hat trick and an assist, Tim Grant ended the afternoon with a pair of goals and six ground balls, and Alex Grant-Roy (Biddeford, Maine) added the other scores for the Mariners. Michael Dedian (Scarborough, Maine) and Grafton Page (Melbourne Beach, Fla.) recorded assists on the afternoon, while Alec Grant (Hollis, N.H.) led the team with three caused turnovers. Cody Schell (Pasadena, Md.) tallied 22 saves in net, while scooping up six ground balls. Tim Grant and Justin Kretzmer (Glastonbury, Conn.) also scooped up six ground balls.

Ted Powers led the Buccaneers with four goals and two assists, while Reed McLean and Cody Livermore tallied hat tricks and Keaghan Bartley added a pair of goals. Patrick Kearney scooped up a game-high seven ground balls and James Klose stopped seven shots in net in the win for the Buccaneers.

The Mariners fall to 0-3 on the season, and will return to action on Wednesday, March 16 when they host Curry College at 3:00 p.m. on Ritchie Field. The Buccaneers improve to 3-1 on the year.
