Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Game to Curry

Box Score

MILTON, Mass. -- Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to Curry College, 3-1 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams fought to a scoreless tie heading into halftime, but Curry came out strong in the second half, netting three goals in the first 10 minutes of play. The Colonels got scores from juniors Eric Miller and Hunter Duval and senior Steven DePina.

Maine Maritime got on the board with 18:37 left to play after an unassisted tally from freshman Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine), his first career goal. The Mariners worked hard to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game but strong play between the pipes from Curry keeper Mike Russo-Penta held them to one goal.

Curry led with a 17-11 shot advantage and took 10 corner kicks while Maine Maritime had one.

Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) made seven stops in goal in the loss for the Mariners and Russo-Penta made four saves in net earning the win for Curry.

The Mariners fall to 1-3-1 overall on the season and will return to action on Tuesday for their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener at Thomas College at 5:00 p.m.
