Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to the University of Maine at Fort Kent, 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Bengals got on the board in the 11th minute following a goal from Kalusha Kotes. Kotes found teammate Odean Irons less than two minutes later to make it 2-0 Fort Kent.
Carlos Crusat-Lopez connected with Ben Kluvers for the Bengals' third goal of the game, and Irons added his second goal of the game in the 20th minute.
Maine Fort Kent's Faizi Salim found an open Keano Williams to make it 5-0.
Maine Maritime's Ike Doiron (Wilton, Maine) scored his first goal of the season when he beat Fort Kent's goalie Butch Forbes on a penalty kick with 9:44 remaining in the first half to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Both teams continued to battle in the second half, but the offense was limited, with neither team finding the back of the net.
Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) stopped eight shots in net for the Mariners and Ahkeim Forbes earned the win in net for the Bengals
The Mariners fall to 0-1-1 on the season, and will travel to Gordon College on Wednesday, September 7 for a 4:00 p.m. game.
