Men's Lacrosse Sails Past Badgers

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse sailed to a 13-2 victory over Johnson State College on Sunday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action, at the University of Vermont.

The Mariners scored three goals in both of the first two quarters to hold a 6-0 lead at halftime. The Badgers could not get on the board until late in the third quarter, but the Mariners scored six goals in the fourth quarter alone, to secure the victory.

Chase Whittemore (Skowhegan, Maine) led Maine Maritime with four goals, three assists, and six ground balls. Dean Samuelson (Southbury, Conn.) also added four goals and scooped up two ground balls. Zachary Doucette (Portland, Maine) tallied three goals, dished out an assist and scooped up a ground ball, Andrew Waltz (Topsham, Maine) recorded two goals and a ground ball and Alex Grant-Roy (Biddeford, Maine) led the team with four assists, while scooping up six ground balls and causing a turnover.

George Doe (Kennebunkport, Maine), Nathan Granholm (Brunswick, Maine), and Christopher Flaherty (Scarborough, Maine), all had six ground balls on the afternoon, while Nikko Pappas (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) led the team with two caused turnovers. Doe went an impressive 14-of-16 from the faceoff circle, and Tyler County (Auburn, Maine) went 2-for-2.

Rhys Keenhold and Ethan Wehse accounted for Johnson State's offense, each tallying a goal, while goalie Jay Palmisano led the team with four ground balls and Isaiah LeReau and Colin Dalmata caused two turnovers each to lead the Badgers defensively.

Maine Maritime's Daniel Lee (Satellite Beach, Fla.) earned his first collegiate victory in net, stopping three shots, while Palmisano stopped 21 shots in the loss for the Badgers.

The Mariners improve to 2-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference, while the Badgers fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, April 15 at the University of New England at 1:00 pm.
