Fort Kent Edges Maine Maritime

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to UMaine-Fort Kent 3-2 on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.

The Mariners fall to 4-6-1 overall, while the Bengals improve to 8-3-2 on the season. Maine Maritime hosts Unity College tomorrow at 6:00 pm for a non-conference matchup.

Fort Kent scored three goals in just over six minutes to take a 3-0 advantage early in the game, but the Mariners fought back to close the gap to 3-1 in the 26th minute when Andrew King (Thomaston, Maine) snuck a ball in past Fort Kent's goalie following a corner kick from Jeremy Spiegel (West Chester, Pa.).

Liam Welch (Temple, Maine) brought the Mariners within one goal in the 79th minute when he found the back of the net on a throw in from Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) but Maine Maritime's comeback fell short as the Bengals held on for the victory.

Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) was impressive in net for the Mariners, tallying 19 saves in the loss, and Glenroy Osbourne earned the victory in net for the Bengals.

Fort Kent held a 35-6 advantage in shots, and an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
