Canton Overpowers Mariners

CANTON, N.Y. –  Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer fell to SUNY Canton 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.

The Mariners fall to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in NAC play, while SUNY Canton improves to 3-4-2 on the season and 1-1-0 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday night at Husson University. 

Conner Morse put SUYN Canton on the board quickly in the seventh minute, on an unassisted strike and Kyle Smith doubled the Kangaroos' lead in the 19th minute. Edward Malinoski, Jr. added another goal for Canton, and then hosts took a 3-0 lead into halftime. 

Maine Maritime's Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) broke up the shutout in the 62nd minute, but the Mariners could not fight back from the early deficit.

Andrew Coleman (Saco, Maine) got tabbed with the loss for the Mariners, stopping four shots in the first half, while Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) stopped all three shots he faced in the second half. Mouhammed Thiam earned the victory for SUNY Canton, stopping four shots. 

SUNY Canton held a 16-12 edge in shots, while the Mariners had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
