Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's soccer falls to Colby College 9-2 in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening.
How it Happened: Maine Maritime struck early when Pieter Oudejans (Rockledge, Fla.) scored a goal in the 12th minute off an assist from Branden Pasternak (Orlando, Fla.) to give the Mariners a 1-0 led. Colby College answered with four goals in ten minutes to bring the score to 4-1 at halftime.
Ethan Franco started off the scoring in the second half for the Mules in the 50th minute to extend the Mules led to 5-1. Pasternak quickly answered with a goal off a pass from Landon Nichols (Searsmont, Maine) in the 52nd minute to cut the lead to 5-2. Colby College scored four more goals in the second half to win 9-2.
Inside the Numbers: The Mules held a 23-7 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks over the Mariners. Maxwell Tomlin (Monroe, Maine) and Trevor Gray (Gorham, Maine) split time in net, recording one save and two saves respectively, while Brendan McCarthy tallied three saves for the Mules.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 6-6-1 overall, while Colby College improves to 5-5-1 overall. The Mariners return to action on Saturday, October 12 at 2:30 pm when they travel to play UMaine-Farmington in a conference matchup.
