Mariners Fall in Overtime to Beavers

FARMINGTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer falls to UMaine-Farmington 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon in a conference matchup.

How it Happened: Maine Maritime started quickly with a goal from Pieter Oudejans (Rockledge, Fla.) off a pass from Evan Allen (Avon, Maine) in the eighth minute to give the Mariners a 1-0 led. Late in the first half, the Beavers answered with a goal from Gracien Mukwa to tie the game 1-1 going into the second half.

After a scoreless second half, the game went into overtime. In the 92nd minute of play the Beavers scored off a Mariner own goal to claim the 2-1 victory.

Inside the Numbers: UMaine-Farmington held a 16-4 advantage in shots and a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks over the Mariners. Matthew Castella (San Antonio, Texas) tallied four saves in net for the Mariners and Jonah Sautter made one save for the Beavers.

Up Next: The Mariners fall to 6-7-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference, while the Beavers improve to 8-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference. The Mariners return to action on Saturday, October 23 at 2:30pm for senior day against Husson University.
