Box Score 2 CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's volleyball beat NVU-Johnson 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17) and UMaine-Fort Kent 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 28-26) on Saturday afternoon.
Maine Maritime 3 - NVU-Johnson 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-17)
How it Happened: In a competitive match, the Mariners used a six-point run in the middle of the first set to close out the 25-17 win. In a back-and-forth second set, the Mariners relied on their explosive offense that tallied 12 kills to lead them to a 25-19 win. Maine Maritime jumped out to a quick start in the third set, with seven straight points off of serving from Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.) and never looked back to claim the 3-0 victory against the Badgers.
Inside the Numbers: The Mariners were led by Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) with a game-high 20 kills on .4 hitting, six digs, two aces, and one block. Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) chipped in a game-high 35 assists, three digs, and one kill, while Makenna Middleton (Peoria, Ill.) tallied a game-high 13 digs and four service aces.
The Badgers were led by Christina Betham with seven kills three digs, and one ace, while Julia Sadlon recorded nine assists, five digs, and two aces.
Maine Maritime 3 – UMaine-Fort Kent 0 (25-20, 25-21, 28-26)
How it Happened: In an extremely competitive match, the Mariners relied on their defense to carry them to a 3-0 victory. The Mariners won the first two sets, which had similar back-and-forth action, with each team exhibiting quick and effective offense. After being down in the third set, the Mariners went on a five-point run to bring themselves back in the game and eventually win 28-26 to claim the 3-0 victory against the Bengals.
Inside the Numbers: Albritton led the Mariners with a Maine Maritime three-set single-match record of 45 assists, along with five digs, three kills, and two aces. Melampy added a game-high 19 kills, 10 digs, two blocks, and one assist. Rich and Hunnie Zuber-Stephens (Lubbock, Texas) carried the Mariner defense with 18 and 16 digs respectively.
The Bengals were led by Carla Rodriguez with 14 assists, six digs, and two aces, while Halle Hame tallied 15 digs and one ace.
