Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's basketball fell to Springfield College, 77-45 Sunday afternoon in the final round of the Mariner Pepsi Invitational.
How it Happened: The first ten minutes proved to be a competitive, back-and-forth quarter, with the Mariners coming out on top, 16-13 going into the second quarter. The first seven minutes of the second quarter had similar action, until the Pride went on a 12-2 run, sparked by a jumper made by Grace Dzindolet, to end the half with a score of 34-26. The Pride outscored the Mariners in the third quarter 22-6 and never looked back, claiming a 77-45 win.
Inside the Numbers: Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with nine points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and two assists. Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) came off the bench scoring nine points, while Erianna Moore (Fitchburg, Mass.) tallied eight points, six rebounds, two blocks, two steals, and one assist.
Sidney Wentland led the Pride with a game-high 23 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Sam Hourihan recorded a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds, along with two steals, one block, and one assist, while Grace Dzindolet tallied 12 points, five steals, four rebounds, and three assists.
The Mariners shot 27.9% from the floor and 23.8% from beyond the arc, while Springfield shot 42.9% from the hardwood and 50% from three.
