Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's lacrosse cruised to a 16-9 victory over Husson University on Friday night at Boucher Field.
How it Happened: Riley Morin (Harpswell, Maine) put the Mariners on the board first at 9:02, but the Eagles tied things up at 5:19 on a man-up score from Jaden Wells. Jacob Belanger (Brunswick, Maine) and Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine) scored back-to-back goals to give the Mariners a 3-1 advantage, but the Eagles scored in the final seconds to cut the lead back to one.
Husson tied things up again to start the second quarter, but the Mariners used a three-goal run to take a 6-3 lead with 9:09 to go in the quarter. After the two teams exchanged goals back-and-forth Zeke Tocci (Naples, Maine) scored three goals in the final 2:29 of the second quarter to give the Mariners a 10-5 lead at halftime.
Both teams added two goals in the third and Maine Maritime outscored Husson 4-2 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Inside the Numbers: Tocci led all players with a career-high seven goals to go along with an assist, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Sawyer Watson (Topsham, Maine) added two goals, an assist, three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Belanger finished the night with two goals and a ground ball and Chandler Coombs (Brunswick, Maine) contributed a game-high 10 ground balls, three caused turnovers, two assists and a goal. William Davee (Hope, Maine) forced three turnovers, while scooping up four ground balls and Jed Astbury (Bridgewater, Vt.) went 11-of-22 from the faceoff, collecting five ground balls.
Caden White (Woodstock, Vt.) tallied a goal and an assist, while Owen Hansen (Bennington, Vt.), Wilson and Morin accounted for the other goals for the Mariners.
Matthew Boynton led the Eagles with four goals, an assist, five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Gunner McAllister tallied two goals, two assists, six ground balls and caused a turnover and Darryn Bailey scooped up a team-best eight ground balls.
In net Maine Maritime's Garrett Ruszkowski (Saugus, Mass.) stopped 16 shots in the victory, while Husson's Shawn Ragaglia tallied six saves in the loss.
