Maine Maritime Sailing finished 17th at the Hoyt Trophy and 16th at the Hood Trophy last weekend.
Sailors Zachary York (Sewell, N.J.), Arden Astin (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Ella Beauregard (Southport Island, Maine), Haley Kent (Needham, Mass.), Mott Blair (Wallace, N.C.), and Natalie Samuels (San Ramon, Calif.) competed for Maine Maritime at the Hoyt Trophy, which served as the New England qualifier for the Atlantic Coast Championship series. Saturday, September 25 brought a light southerly wind that provided challenges for the Mariners, who finished 17th overall. Sunday, September 26 brought more favorable conditions for the Mariners. Beauregard and Kent started the day and were relieved by Blair and Samuels. The Mariners were able to stay connected to the pressure and not leveraged from the fleet. Blair and Samuels notched a high finish of 10th for the Mariners.
Olivia Mitchell (Bainbridge Island), Robert Jacobs (Denton, Md.), Kenneth Deloe (Rochester, N.Y.), Benjamin Mazzucco (East Haven, Conn.), Quinn Collins (Stowe, Vt.), and Courtney King (Appleton, Maine) competed for the Mariners in the Hood Trophy sailing in Larks. Saturday, September 25 there was little to no wind at the Bacow Sailing Pavilion. Without enough wind to get the first race off, competitors waited in postponement until 2:00pm when just enough wind filled in from the NE to start the first race. Finally, a light wind came in that was shifty and came in puffs. It was critical for the Mariners to identify and sail toward the pressure to stay with the fleet. Mitchell and Jacobs posted high finishes of 11th and 12th in A Fleet. Sunday, September 26th, brought a consistent breeze of around 5-13 kts. The Mariners finished 16th overall, with Collins and King posting a high finish of 9th.
Maine Maritime returns to action next weekend with teams competing at the Sister Ester Trophy hosted by Connecticut College and the Lark Invite hosted by Tufts University.
