Mariners Sailing ventured beyond the bounds of NEISA this weekend sending teams to two regattas on the greater ICSA schedule: the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship Round 1A at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and the NY Maritime Fall Open at SUNY Maritime in New York. Both events held within MAISA's water challenged sailors with light air, shifting conditions, and strong competition from teams outside of NEISA.
Women's ACC Round1A @ St. Mary's College of Maryland
The Women's team traveled to Maryland to face off against 16 top-ranked programs in the first round of the Atlantic Coast Championship series. Light and inconsistent breeze dominated the weekend, with long postponements, major shifts, and strong tactical demands from start to finish.
Maine Maritime finished 17th overall. Despite the result, the regatta was an important developmental step as the team gained experience racing against some of the nation's most seasoned women's teams.
"The conditions couldn't have been further from our strengths—but that made it the perfect weekend to get better." said Associate Coach Delaney Conlogue.
Jane Marvin skippered in the A Division with crews Julianna DeMarco and Simone Ford. Alma Bewsher skippered in the B Division with crews, Cathleen Rutter, Taber Allen, and Ford.

NY Maritime Fall Open @ SUNY Maritime
MMA's Open-Team sailors encountered a similarly fickle breeze at SUNY Maritime's venue on Throggs Neck.
Light wind in the East River made for challenging races with boats spending a long time on one tack clawing their way up the river, and very little time on the other tack as they would get swiftly swept out of sight down the river.
Both teams learned quickly what to do and what not to do and moved up the ranks until they arrived at third on the last set. If racing had continued, the team's trajectory was certainly good. But the fickle wind died out early both days and the sun set on New York City with less than half a regatta complete.
Finn Deprez and George White sailed in the A division and Toby Clarkson and Liam Ries Sailed in the B clinching second in their division with just 13 points. Isaac Thompson and Charles O'Rourke attended as alternates.
