Mariners Fend Off Fighting Tigers

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – Reuben Harrison (Heidelberg, Germany) scored a goal and assisted on the game-winner to lead Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer to 2-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon.
 
How it Happened: Harrison got the scoring going in the 24th minute, as he beat John Gergen one on one in the box, to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. The Fighting Tigers quickly responded with a goal of their own in the 28th minute, when Nicholas DePaulo headed in a corner from Spencer Reismman to knot the game up at 1-1.
 
The teams remained even at 1-1 until late in the second half, when Dominick Gecoya (Middleton, Mass.) finished a through ball from Harrison to score the eventual game-winner and lead the Mariners to a 2-1 victory.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Maine Maritime Academy held a 13-7 advantage in shots, while the Fighting Tigers held a 7-4 advantage in corners.
  • Maxwell Tomlin (Monroe, Maine) recorded seven saves in the win for the Mariners, while Gergen made five for the Fighting Tigers.
  • Harrison, Gecoya, and Elijah Yeaton (Farmington, Maine) all recorded two shots for the Mariners off the bench.
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 4-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play, while SUNY Cobleskill drops to 0-11-2 overall, and 0-6 in conference play. The Mariners return to action on Sunday, October 8, when they travel to Delhi, N.Y. to face SUNY Delhi in a NAC matchup set for 12:00pm.
