Box Score CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse beat Regis College, 17-3 in home opener.
How it Happened: Sam Nichol (Concord, N.H.) opened up the scoring for the Mariners when he scored an unassisted goal and then a man-up goal assisted by Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine). Riley Morin (Harpswell, Maine) added another unassisted goal to end the first quarter with a score of 3-0. Morin started the second quarter with a goal and Wilson added another to extend the Mariners lead to 5-0. Liam Donovan put Regis on the board with an unassisted goal before the Mariners finished off the first half with four straight goals; two from Wilson, one from Zeke Tocci (Naples, Maine), and one from Stewart Farnham (Portsmouth, R.I.), which was his first career goal, to make the score 9-1 in favor of the Mariners at the half.
Wilson scored his fourth goal of the night to start the second half and then found Alex Stevens (South Portland, Maine) for his first career goal. The Pride answered with a goal from Ryan Richardson, before Wilson and Owen Hansen (Bennington, Vt.) added two more goals for the Mariners. The Pride scored one more goal on the afternoon to end the third quarter. The Mariners ended the game with four goals in the fourth quarter from Ian Haines (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Wilson, Farnham, and Hansen to claim a 17-3 victory.
Inside the Numbers: Wilson led the Mariners with six goals and three assists, along with three ground balls and one caused turnover. Hansen, Farnham, and Morin each added two goals each, while Haines, Tocci, and Stevens chipped in one goal each. Haines picked up a game-high seven ground balls and Stevens added four. Tocci and Haines both caused three turnovers on the afternoon.
Ryan Richardson recorded two goals and one caused turnovers for the Pride and Liam Donovan added one goal and one ground ball. Zach Sweeney caused two turnovers.
Zach McCarthy (Malvern, Pa.) picked up the win for the Mariners with five saves, while Andrew King (Towson, Md.) tallied 2 saves in 11:33 minutes of relief and Ethan Snowman (Sarasota, Fla.) recorded one in 3:27 minutes. Nick Penta had 20 saves for the Pride.
The Mariners held a 63-22 advantage in shots and a 38-10 advantage in ground balls over the Pride.
