Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse fell to Colby College, 21-5 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.
How it Happened: Colby dominated the first half, scoring 15 unanswered goals. The Mules started off the second half strong as well with two consecutive goals before Jacob Belanger (Brunswick, Maine) answered with an unassisted goal to put the Mariners on the board. Thirty seconds later, Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine) found Belanger during a man-up opportunity for his second goal of the night. The two team traded goals for the rest of the game with Riley Morin (Harpswell, Maine), Wilson, and Alex Stevens (South Portland, Maine) all recording one goal each to make the final score 21-5 in favor of the Mules.
Inside the Numbers: Belanger led the Mariners with two goals, while Wilson added a goal and assist. Jed Astbury (Bridgewater, Vt.) picked up a game-high 10 ground balls and three Mariners had one caused turnover each.
Jack Richards and Matt Stein led the Mules with four goals, while Grey Warble and Bret Miller added two each. Justin Turley picked up seven ground balls and two Mules had a pair of caused turnovers each.
Andrew King (Towson, Md.) tallied five saves and Zach McCarthy (Malvern, Pa.) recorded 16 saves in 45 minutes of relief. Matt Suffredini and Will Rickards had two saves each and Matt Rocha tallied zero and Cooper Giblin had three.
The Mules held a 67-14 advantage in shots and a 23-18 advantage in ground balls over the Mariners.
