CASTINE, Maine – Colby College scored four times in the second half to claim a 5-1 victory over Maine Maritime Academy Men's Soccer on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at Ritchie Field.
How it Happened: After a scoreless 34 minutes the Mules got on the board with a goal from Mario Simoes, assisted by Sam Wilson, and took that 1-0 advantage into the half.
Colby opened up the second half with an unassisted goal from Ethan Franco in the 49th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Elijah Yeaton (Farmington, Maine) scored his first-career goal in the 56th minute after he headed in a corner from Dominick Gecoya (Middleton, Mass.), to cut Colby's lead to just one but the Mules added three more goals to claim the 5-1 win.
Inside the Numbers:
- Yeaton and Gecoya led the Mariners offensively, with a goal and an assist, respectively
- Simeos led Colby with two goals, while Franco added another and both Josh Rubin, and Wilson tallied a goal and an assist for the Mules
- Maxwell Tomlin (Monroe, Maine) tallied seven saves in net for the Mariners, while Brendan McCarthy tallied two for the Mules
- Colby held a 17-5 advantage in shots and a 8-2 edge in corner kicks
Up Next: Maine Maritime falls to 1-4 overall, while the Mules improve to 2-1 on the year. The Mariners return to action next Saturday, September 17 when they host conference opponent NVU-Lyndon on Ritchie Field at 1:00 pm, as part of Homecoming.
