Polar Bears Shutout Mariners in Non-Conference Matchup

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer dropped an 8-0 non-conference matchup to Bowdoin College on Tuesday evening.

How it Happened: Bowdoin College struck early in the 12th minute, when Samaya Bernardo snuck a shot inside the right post, off a deflection from Jade Cromwell, to give the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead which held through halftime. The Polar Bears scored seven times in the second half with goals from Rachael Peacock, Morgan Smiley, Megan Lymburner and Ella Olcese to lead Bowdoin to the win.

Inside the Numbers:
  • The Polar Bears outshot the Mariners 32-0 and held an 18-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • First-year Caitlin Schilbe (Spokane, Wash.) made six saves in 52 minutes of action, while first-year Lorelei Mason (Gardiner, Maine) made four saves in relief.
  • Lo Hoglin, Bernardo, and Olcese led the Polar Bears with four shots each.
Up Next: Maine Maritime falls to 2-3-1 overall with the loss, while Bowdoin improve to 5-1 overall. The Mariners return to action on Saturday, September 24 at 3:30pm when they host Cazenovia College in a North Atlantic Conference matchup.
