Mariners Cruise Past Badgers

JOHNSON, Vt. – Maine Maritime women's basketball capped off their weekend trip to New York with a 95-79 win over NVU-Johnson in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
 
How it Happened: The Mariners got off to a quick start in the first quarter, taking a 27-7 point lead in the first five minutes of the game. The Badgers caught some momentum in late in the first, to cut the Maine Maritime lead to 15 going into the second. Maine Maritime continued to hold their lead throughout the second quarter, with a score of 55-43 going into the half.
 
The second half continued to be more of the same action with the Mariners taking a 95-79 victory over NVU-Johnson.


Inside the Numbers:
  • Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Mariners once again in points with 22, along with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
  • Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) tallied 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Evelyn Dagan (Castine, Maine) added 14 points and three rebounds.
  • Erianna Moore (Fitchburg, Mass.) recorded a double-double with a game-high 13 assists and 11 rebounds in addition to six points.
  • Paris Atuahene had a game-high 31 points, while Emma Buonanno added 16 points off the bench for the Badgers.
  • Maine Maritime shot 46.4% from the floor and 36.4% from beyond the arc, while the Badgers shot 40.6% from the hardwood and 40.9% from the three point line.
 
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 9-5 on the year and 5-0 in conference action, while NVU-Johnson falls to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in conference. The Mariners return to action on Tuesday, January 17 at 5:30pm when they host Thomas College in a NAC matchup.
