Mariners Drop Eagles

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's basketball had four players in double-digits in a 64-55 victory against conference opponent Husson University to stay undefeated in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action.
 
How it Happened: After two made free throws by the Eagles, the Mariners took a quick lead, ending the quarter with a score of 18-8. In the second quarter, the Eagles started chipping into the Mariners' lead, closing the gap to four going into the half.
 
The Eagles came out strong in the third quarter, tying the game twice, but the Mariners got out of the quarter with a one point lead. The Mariners dominated the fourth quarter, holding Husson to only eight points. Maine Maritime made some free throws down the stretch to secure a victory.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) led the Mariners with 15 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, and four assists.
  • Erianna Moore (Fitchburg, Mass.) added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, along with four assists, one block and one steal.
  • Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) chipped in another 14 points and Evelyn Dagan (Castine, Maine) had 11 points off the bench.
  • Vanessa Duarte had 17 points, while Hannah Richards tallied 13 points for the Eagles.
  • Maine Maritime shot 37.7% from the hardwood and 36.8% from beyond the arc, while Husson shot 24.6% from the floor and 26.5% from three point land.
 
Up Next: The Mariners improve to 11-5 overall and 7-0 in conference, while Husson University falls to 13-6 on the year and 7-1 in NAC play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Friday, January 27 at 5:30pm when they host NVU-Lyndon in conference action.
