Castro Sets Career-High Against Hornets

CASTINE, Maine – Jacquelin Castro (Melbourne, Fla.) sets career-high in a 79-40 victory against NVU-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
 
How it Happened: Lyndon took a quick lead on the Mariners, which held through the first quarter, as they took a 13-11 lead. Maine Maritime regrouped at the break and took the lead after back-to-back buckets by Holly Reeder-Morning (Kingston, Mass.). The Mariners continued to build off the lead, making the score 36-23 at the half.
 
Maine Maritime dominated the second half, outscoring the Hornets 43-17 to claim a 79-40 victory.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Castro tallied a career- and game-high 26 points, going 11 for 12 from the floor, along with eight points, four blocks, one assist, and one steal.
  • Maria Barela (Albuquerque, N.M.) recorded 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
  • Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and one steal.
  • Sage Smith tallied 15 points, while Kerigan Disorda recorded nine for the Hornets.
  • Maine Maritime shot 50.8% from the floor and 17.4% from the three point line, while the Hornets shot 27.8% from the hardwood and 18.8% from three point land.
 
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 13-5 on the year and 9-0 in conference, while the Hornets fall to 9-10 overall and 5-4 in conference action. The Mariners return to action on Tuesday, January 31 at 5:00pm when they host UMaine-Fort Kent in a non-conference matchup.
