Mariners Defeat Bobcats in Overtime

CASTINE, Maine – Malachi Reincke (Houston, Texas) nails a putback in overtime to send the Mariners to a 92-91 over Bates College in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening.

How it Happened: Maine Maritime started off strong with an 8-0 run in the first three minutes of play. Bates College got into a rhythm and took the lead a couple minutes after. The two teams then had a lot of back-and-forth action, knotting the game up at 42 going into the half.

The Bobcats jumped out in front quickly in the second half, holding onto their lead until halfway through the second, when the Mariners regained the lead. The Mariners went up by 11 points with six minutes to go in regulation, before the Bobcats started chipping away at their lead again. A foul off a three send the Bobcats to the line with 13 seconds left on the clock. The Bobcats made all three to go up by two points with the Mariners gaining possession of the ball. Markus Ramirez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) came off a high ball screen, making a contested layup to send the game into overtime.

Overtime was filled with competitive play from both teams, but came down to the wire much like regulation. The Bobcats took a one point lead off a made layup with 25 second left the period. The Mariners worked the ball around the horn, until it found an open Carter Rubin (Littleton, Colo.) who shot a three. Rubin missed the three, but Reincke was there to clean up the rebound and sink a putback with 2.1 seconds left on the clock to put the Mariners up by one. The Bobcats were unsuccessful in their last attempt to score and the Mariners took the 92-91 victory!
