Volleyball Splits Saturday's Matches

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball went 1-1, picking up a win against Wheaton College (3-2) before falling to Bowdoin College (3-0) on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Morrell Gymnasium. 

In the first match of the day the Mariners fought back from a 2-0 set deficit to defeat Wheaton College 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21, 15-11).

Chloe Weeks (Farmington, N.H.) led the Mariners with a match-high 15 kills, while adding three solo blocks, three digs and an assist. Ally Hadley (Hebron, Conn.) tallied a double-double of 17 digs and 14 kills, to go along with two aces, two assists and two block assists. Sydney Rich (Williamsburg, Va.) led the team with 19 digs, and also recorded five assists and two aces, while Katie Albritton (Hutto, Texas) tallied a team-high 25 assists to go along with five kills, two total blocks and an ace. 

For Wheaton (11-11), Anna Shaheen led the way with 10 kills, while Jackie Hochberg tallied a match-high 21 digs and Julianna Flack recorded a match-high 37 assists. 

The Mariners fell to Bowdoin College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-14) in the final match of the day.

Ila Smith (Lexington, Ky.) led the Mariners with eight kills, to go along with three digs and a block, while Hunnie Zuber-Stephens (Lubbock, Texas) led the team with nine digs and two aces, while adding a kill and Albritton tallied a team-high 11 assists, and also contributed four digs and an ace. 

Mina Mittler and Haley Campau led the Polar Bears (10-8) with eight kills each, while Ella Haugen tallied a team-high 20 assists and nine digs. 

With the 1-1 day, the Mariners now sit at 16-5 (8-0 NAC) overall and will return to action on Thursday, October 26 when they host UMaine-Fort Kent for a non-conference match at 6:00 pm.
